...Specializing in Non-Profit Development, Sustainability, and Growth |

Almost every non-profit that contacts me is interested in pursuing grant funding—immediately. Yet, very few of these organizations are (initially) prepared for the fierce competition ahead. For this reason, I tend to focus heavily on systems and accountability—which impacts on both program quality and the likelihood of funding success. The better your programs and organization… the better your chances of receiving funding of any kind. My approach is more comprehensive than most “grant writers.” Putting on my Social Worker/Administrator hat, I can detect any shortcomings in your current plan or help you figure out the “hows” in your implementation strategy. If your budget projections are either too high or too low, we resolve that. In fact, we need to address all potential barriers prior to submitting any funding requests. Otherwise, it really isn’t worth the effort and expense since funding outcomes are not as promising. Many grant writers can put together a solid application if they are given the information and arguments by the organization’s leadership. They simply arrange what you give them to meet the format and other guideline requirements—along with focusing on flow and written clarity. In other words, they end up concentrating on language and sentence structure more than the effectiveness of the content itself. Most of these grant writers cannot tell you if your answers are complete, compelling, and apt to serve you well. And, if you lack program details, quality assurance systems, or measurable outcomes and methodologies, most grant writers do not have the skills to help you create them. If you require this type of elevated support, a good writer is clearly not enough. You need someone like me. I have experience in federal, state, municipal, county, foundation, and corporate grants (as well as other types of funding, such as corporate sponsorships and donations from the general public). My professional background also includes grants administration and reporting, plus serving as a grant evaluator. Further, I am quite at home with licensing regulations, and state and federal statutes.
